Lion

Lion was made over the course of four weeks. He started out as a very basic “cute” lion. It was a stressful time and I took him everywhere. I sculpted his face with a needle and thread in doctor offices, waiting for kids activities, sitting in the car lines at the kids schools. I don’t know how many dozens of hours went into him - or even if I could make another. He’s one of a kind and my favorite fabric sculpture ever. He will be hard to part with, but is available for sale to somebody who will love him and take care of him.

Early in lion’s making. Originally I thought he was finished at this stage, but then I just couldn’t stop shaping his face. It became an obsession to get his face like a real lion. I think I added just as many stitches as I had to remove along the way. It was trial and error, I had never worked in so much detail.

This is lion on the seat of my van. He went everywhere with me and I took advantage of every free moment to work on sculpting his face. Here he is close to being finished. I was working on placing his whiskers which was one of my bigger challenges.
